A separate room in the other wing of the building is furnished as the Captain's Wife's Quarters. Here, I have placed pieces of furniture from my grandmother's home: they were brought from St. Petersburg by my grandfather when the Russian Revolution broke out and the Russian intelligentsia fled. I've tried to decorate it how one such room might have looked in the old Käsmu captain's house, and it is womanly from wall to wall. In truth, I have thought that it's a bit false to call Käsmu solely a "captains village". Käsmu was actually a village of captains' wives, and sometimes, sadly, also a village of widows. The men were at sea for nearly the entire year, and the captains generally came home only by Christmas. As the room is a part of my own residence, it is shown to visitors only by separate arrangement.
